Secondary School Transfer
Buckinghamshire runs a selective school system for secondary aged students. This means that children are selected by ability to attend the schools that are designed to cater for their needs. There are grammar schools, upper schools and special schools.
In order that the right schools are allocated, the children sit two test papers called the 11+. These are administered by the primary schools in early September to all Year 6 pupils in order to ensure equality of access. The results are released in October and then parents can apply for their preferred secondary schools. This process is administered by the Local Authority but we provide an information evening for parents when their children are in Year 5 with slide hand-outs.
In March the children find out which schools they are going to and then in June the induction process begins with visits from secondary school staff.
