SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
Some children have special educational needs which affect their rates of progress and their access to the curriculum. Our school has an excellent SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) who oversees the support we offer to these pupils. Many pupils with special needs simply require their work to be adjusted in class so they can access it, while some require specialist assessment and adult support. Some children are supported through an EHCP (Education Healthcare Plan) which sets out what needs to be done to help them and how much adult support they should need. Others need a smaller amount of adult support. All of our children with special needs are given opportunities to be as independent as possible and are educated alongside the other children in their classes.
The school is fully accessible for wheelchairs and has disabled toilet facilities. There is a soundfield system in each classroom so the teacher's voice can be projected for those who are hard of hearing, and computer equipment is installed for those who are visually impaired. The curriculum is adapted for disabled pupils where necessary. For details please see the policy and local offer by clicking on the links to the right.
